THE CLOTHES MAKE V MAN

BEACH BONANZA

There’s a new refreshing, snooty-free pop up shop in Southampton this summer. T.B.D. (To Be Determined) ’s innovative approach to menswear has all of the East End buzzing. But you won’t find piles of swim trunks and stacks of flip-flops here. TBD bridges the gap between Job’s Lane and Elizabeth Street, stocking Unis, APC and BBlessing, among others.

“We recognized a need for modern, casual menswear out here,” says Peter Hananel, one half of the duo that brought TBD to life. “We wanted to bring some ‘New York cool’ out east for the summer.”

The shop is clean, airy and bright, with a playlist featuring the sounds of anything from Aretha Franklin to Frank Zappa. In T.B.D., you can breeze through a gigantic Jeff Koons book while your buddy is getting stoked on one of the handmade wooden surfboards on offer.

Along with his collaborator, former Mergers and Acquisitions man, Jesse Warren, Hananel is interested in making their venture a destination store. They plan on partnering with several artists to curate a few rotating photography shows throughout the summer – a business acumen catered to the creative clients breezing through.

“On a typical day,” Hananel explains, “everyone from a Brooklyn-based filmmaker to a middle-aged former fashion executive walk through our doors. This community is engaged with the creative world and connects to it through a variety of ways.”

T.B.D. is located at 67a Jobs Lane in Southampton, NY
