On Thursday night, a small and loyal crowd gathered at Glasslands in Willyburg to hear Australian quartet Crayon Fields. Now on their second album release, Crayon Fields have assembled a low-fi 1960′s pop sound, described by Pitchfork as “somewhere between The Byrds and The Zombies”. Frontman Geoff O’Connors’ delicate voice and lyrics took me back to a time when crushes were reset with each school bell, and reminded me how sweet dreams of young love can be. These naïve verses, coupled with a soft-swaying sound, clearly indicated some would leave Grasslands with a juvenile ear-to-ear smirk and a yearning for foolish love.
