Tonight a couple of happenings, the first is an art opening at the much praised gallery Wallspace in Chelsea. The show is curated by Elizabeth Lovero (ASS Gallery and Whitney Museum). Titled “Saturn Return,” it features notable work by Damien Echols, who is on death row in Arkansas stemming from trumped up charges in the West Memphis 3 court case. It also features Misrer Echols friend and collaborator Jen De Nike, who will be performing a site specific piece in the gallery. Miss De Nike recently had a performance piece at MOMA. The show will also feature some sculpture I am very excited about from Daniel Turner, who is also a member of the collective Cornrow Rider (awesome name). This is a really exciting show!!!
Runs through July 24, Wallspace, 619 West 27 Street
And tonight post gallery cruising, Light Asylum—the most important and relevant NYC band right now—will be playing at Glasslands. I cannot stress the kind of live show Shannon and Bruno do. They have just returned from Europe touring with Cocoroise. Also on the bill are POPO(super amazing as well!!!), The Sundelles, and Translations.
Doors at 9pm, Glasslands, 289 Kent Avenue, $10
