Gareth Pugh made his Italian debut today in Florence as part of Pitti Immagine Uomo #79, a women’s guest designer among all of the premiering mens’ collections. Pugh debuted his special collection in a film by Ruth Hogben, projected onto the ceiling of a medieval church, The Orsanmichele, in the heart of Florence. In order to synthesize his signature aesthetic for the site-specific showcase, the designer drew from Florence for inspiration: “There is a very definite link to Italy, Florence in particular, and its very rich and beautiful art and architecture within the collection,” he stated prior to the event. “This is my first show in Italy, and I definitely think its important that I bring to Florence, or at least try to capture, the very essence of who I am and what I do.”
