To Do This Weekend

LOTS AND LOTS OF ART ALL WEEK(END)

| May 8, 2010

Performance by Hex Message

This weekend kicks off the first ever New York Gallery Week, although this is somewhat of a misnomer as it is not a week long event, rather a jam-packed weekend to overwhelm (in a good way!) you. New York Gallery Week(end) sees most of the major galleries in the city contributing exclusive shows, lectures and performances. You can find the full schedule here. But in an effort to make your life easy, here are three happenings to hit:

Saturday May 8th, 4:30pm
Wallspace: Artist Donelle Woolford will stage her interpretation of Dan Graham’s famous piece “Performer / Audience/ Mirror”, 1975. Rumors persist that Donelle is actually a fictional artist. However, she will be there in person – you be the judge. I pretty much back anything mildly related to Dan Graham. Cedar Lake, 547 West 26th Street

Sunday May 9th. 11am-1pm
White Columns: FREE BRUNCH! and BENEFIT AUCTION
Free Food and Art. Might be a little early for some of you, but Mathew Higgs the curator for White Columns has asked friends and artists to create artwork on vinyl records. This is a music, art, and food collaboration. Awesome! www.whitecolumns.org

Monday, May 10th
Onward: Taxter & Spengemann presents music and performances by Hex Message, Union, special guests and DJ’s
This final NY Gallery Event of the week is also one of the coolest. Hex Message sound is a great mix of angular noise collage and improvisation. The band features artist Andrew Kuo, gallerist Pascal Spengemann, and Daniel Hougland of other noise rockers Excepter. Even though noise rock sometimes gets a bad rap these guys no how to keep a crowds attention. Santo’s Party House, 96 Lafayette St.
