Luke Smalley, who was both a brilliant photographer with an uncommon knack for capturing boys in adolescence and a talented art director, died unexpectedly last weekend. Luke was a longtime friend who contributed to the very first issue of of VMAN, and we are deeply saddened by his passing. His work also appeared in such publications as Dazed and Confused, Vogue Hommes International, Another, Tokion, and The New York Times, and in the last decade he drew acclaim for his book projects, including 2001′s Gymnasium (pictured) and a 2004 collaboration with Dunhill creative director Kim Jones. At the time of his death, he was completing his latest project, Sunday Drive, which will be released this fall from Twin Palms Publishers.
