Last night as temperature soared in New York, the city’s art and fashion elite escaped the inferno at the launch of the SOUL i-D exhibition. Held at Christie’s auction house, guests were served fresh lemonade and chocolate truffles. How quaint!

The exhibition celebrates the recent publication of SOUL i-D, a compendium of the best of the UK style magazine’s special projects. Under the watchful eye of i-D’s co-founder and Executive Editor, Tricia Jones, the book represents everything that the magazine has been loved for. A celebration of the finest, most refreshing and honest practitioners in fashion, gathered together in 600 pages of wonderful photography and poetic, thought-provoking text.

From July 16 to July 30 2009, Christie’s New York will showcase the final leg of a three-year international exhibition tour.

Contributors include: Giorgio Armani, Tracey Emin, Tom Ford, John Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Stephen Jones, Nick Knight, David LaChapelle, Maison Martin Margiela and Vivienne Westwood.
