Sugar boiled into pure candy at Saturday’s sweaty opening for “A Little Sugar in My Bowl,” the delightfully egalitarian show curated by Terence Koh, Anat Ebgi, and Jenny Schlenzka at the Asia Song Society, Koh’s Chinatown gallery/beauty spa/day-care center. The exhibition’s premise—boldface names plus baby-faced artists—produced a haphazard torrent of creative debauchery marked by unexpected encounters. Marina Abramovic bumped into assume vivid astro focus and Tris Vonna Mitchell collided with Yoko Ono in the wall-to-wall sea of works by socialites, actors, models, and art-world power players. With no labels or checklist, the opening was a nightmare for anyone who wanted to know who did what, but thanks to the creative energy of the gathered masses, there was even more artwork on hand when the night wound down than when things got started.

“A Little Sugar in My Bowl” runs through August 24 at Asia Song Society.
