Suits imply propriety and restraint. So it’s a bit surprising, the degree to which the Siki Im blazer is ruled by its Id. Last season, the designer’s sharply-jacketed boys danced around a Lord of the Flies-inspired drum circle. This season they rummaged through the remains of New York’s once great Wall Street. But as high-mindedly conceptual as his two collections have gotten, it’s the tailoring that creates the allure. Every detail is considered, from concealed buttons on sleeves to hidden leather carry straps inside coats. Directed by Robert Hamada, this film captures the Siki Im psyche, from lost boy to lost banker. But to experience the richness of the stitching, weaving, felting, and quilting, you’ll need to see it all in person.
