This past weekend marked the closing days of Rockaway 11, Nike’s summer respite for surfers, skaters, and sun addicts. The 69th street house may have been a healthy boardwalk stroll from the hipster hullabaloo of the higher streets, but that didn’t mean Nike wasn’t mixed up in the action and helping to support the heart of the Rockaways: beach cleanups in conjunction with the Surfrider Foundation; a new paint job for the skate park on 90th street; other stuff. So we sent photographer Sean Donnola to capture the mid-August scene(ry) still ablaze with shit going on, as summer settles to enter its long sleep.
