BEYOND THE ABSURD: RONALD TAVEL & ANDY WARHOL
This week Anthology Film Archives is showcasing Andy Warhol’s films written by Ronald Tavel. Tavel, who passed away this summer, scripted Warhol’s most resonant and simply enjoyable films of the 60s. Empire, Sleep, and Blowjob are hypnotic hours-long studies, but are frankly boring from a viewers perspective. Not so with Tavel’s selections, including Vinyl the New York underground take on A Clockwork Orange, and the silver factory’s stunning 1966 opus, Chelsea Girls, an absorbing split-screen work that is as emotionally resonant as it is iconic.
Chelsea Girls plays Thursday at 7.
Beyond The Absurd runs through the December 17. For further information and a full schedule visit
