On the eve of their North American tour, The Drums (who we love) have released the video to their latest single, “Down by the Water,” and unlike previous tracks (e.g. “Let’s Go Surfing”), this one is a little bit more mellow, but still totally heartbreaking. Musically, it’s paired down (even though they’ve never been that sonically complex in the first place), but Jonny Pierce’s always-vibrant vocals still have us hooked. The video pays homage to the girl groups of the 50s and 60s, who have inspired the musical composition and sound of The Drums since their early days. And whether it’s the black and white footage or their no-sweat style, they manage, as ever, to look effortlessly rad.
